Enrich your life with continued goal-setting
This is Part 3 in the BURNOUT series
Start at PART 1 Burnout - not just a slang term
How did you go? It is a good sign if you were able to answer all five points with ease. This means that you are already aware of your personal needs and how to continue to nurture yourself.
If you were able to answer two or three and you were really confident in your answers then you are on the right track but there is room for improvement.
If you found it very difficult to come up with any points at all, if you felt overwhelmed and possibly put on the spot and caught off guard then you are not alone. The truth is that many people are not aware of their own needs when it comes to nurturing their life balance and wellness. But if you really want to make a change and move forward into a more positive way of living then you can.
Here are some self care ideas and ways of being kind to yourself that I hear my clients using. You may find that they help you to complete your five goals above.
§Eat better
§Stop drinking caffeine
§Exercise more
§Stop working too many hours
§Have a medical check up
§Think of yourself kindly
§Learn to say ‘no thank you’
§Have a lazy day off
§Shrug off the little stuff
§Build in ‘play time’
§Daily prayer or medication
§Have lunch with a friend regularly
§Simplify whenever possible
§Un-clutter your schedule
§Have a regular massage
§A long bath
§A manicure
§Undertake a positive daily ritual
§Write in a journal
§If it isn't what you want, and doesn’t fit with your future direction…don’t do it
§Never forget that this is your life, the only one you are likely to have so take the time to enjoy every minute of it.
Avoiding burnout and enjoying a more fulfilling life requires you to watch out for yourself like you would a child. Stay alert and continue to enrich your life with continued goal setting such as the five you set above. Remember it is not a one stop shop and can be difficult to create this ‘new habit’. You may find it useful to tell a loved one or a friend about what you are doing, and ask for their assistance to keep you committed to improving your situation. Leave notes for yourself in your diary or on the calendar, schedule in your wellbeing goals into your day or consider working with a life coach for a short period until your ‘new habit’ becomes a part of who you are and how you live everyday.
